Rarilabs

A team of researchers and engineers working on cryptography, access management, and digital identity.

Our team of cryptographers and engineers has spent more than ten years building in this space. We publish our research openly and turn it into working protocols and products.

Publications and contributions

  1. Ethereum standard, co-authored with Vitalik Buterin

An Ethereum standard for a shared on-chain registry of private data commitments. Users can later prove facts about that data with zero-knowledge proofs, without revealing the data itself.

  2. Whitepaper, freedomtool.org

A framework for anonymous digital voting. Voters prove they are eligible using their biometric passport and a zero-knowledge proof, so no personal data ever leaves their phone. Deployed in real elections and polls.

  3. Technology documentation, docs.rarimo.com

Turns a biometric passport into a reusable digital credential. A person scans their passport once on their phone, then proves things like age, citizenship, or uniqueness to apps without revealing the document itself.

  4. arXiv, 2025

A framework for proving machine learning computations directly on a smartphone. It makes zero-knowledge proofs of neural networks fast enough for real applications, with proofs that Ethereum smart contracts can verify.

  5. IACR ePrint 2026/088

A way to embed an authorization policy into a single signing key. Only signers the policy approves can produce a valid signature, with no coordinator and no distributed key ceremony.

  6. IACR ePrint 2024/1868

Lets a person prove they are not on a sanctions or exclusion list while staying anonymous. Designed to plug into privacy-preserving applications such as passport-based voting.

  7. IACR ePrint 2025/1799

A method for turning passwords and biometrics into strong cryptographic keys. An alternative to seed phrases that people cannot memorize, backed by a formal security model.

  8. arXiv, 2025

A lending protocol where bitcoin serves as collateral without wrapping it or trusting a custodian. Loan channels on Bitcoin let borrowers take loans on other chains.

  9. CS & IT, CSCP 2025

Methods for recovering bitcoin when keys are lost. Cross-chain escrow verified with SPV proofs, plus account abstraction that works without a key.
